1 Real Life Person now knows about my blog.
Well, I've done it. I've finally told Oronzo about this blog. I just didn't feel right keeping it from him (despite the fact I've done just that for the past 3 months). Here, listen in on our conversation:
Me: "So, remember when you told me to go get my own blog and stop posting non-family related stuff on our family website?"
Oronzo: "Umm, yeah."
Me: "Well, I did. Back in April I started my own blog."
Oronzo: "Oh." (I don't think he knew what to say.)
Me: "I don't like keeping things from you, so I thought you should know. It's called Overwhelmed With Joy. I've written about our adoption journey, about our son falling in the pool, about weekly meal planning, and other assorted things."
Oronzo: "Did you create it through myblogspace or something?" (possibly fishing for more info so he can go read it?)
Me: "No, I chose Blogger. Oh, and I'm writing anonymously to protect our privacy. Would you like to know the fictitious name I've chosen for you?"
Oronzo: "Let me guess, Grumpy? Mopey?"
Me: "Nope, I'm calling you Oronzo, since that's what you would've been named had your grandfather and father had their way."
Oronzo: "Great." (sarcasm dripping)
Me: "So, do you want to make a guest appearance on my blog and do a post?" (I love how Ellen's husband occasionally does that.)
Oronzo: "Not if my name is Oronzo."
Me: "My readers know you as Oronzo. I'm not changing it."
Oronzo: "You have readers?" (surprise registering in his voice)
Me: "Um, yes." (defensiveness lacing my response) "Well, at first I had next to none, but I'm slowly building up readership. Right now I get a little over 100 hits a day, and anywhere from 5-25 comments per post." (I'm no Dooce by any means, but I'm quite happy with my readers.)
Oronzo: "Hmm..." (signaling the end of his attention span with this topic)
So, there you have it. Oronzo is now aware of this blog. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't stop by to read parts of it, even if only to see what I'm writing about him (I know I would). He'd probably never admit it though. Who knows, maybe he'll at least post a comment letting me know he's stopped by.
One thing is for sure, even though he knows, I'm not censoring what I write about for him. That's what caused me to start this blog in the first place!

Ray has always known about the blog and I show him pics from time to time since it's the easiest way for him to see them.
He thinks it's great but he wouldn't be able to access it no matter how many times I've shown him. He's finally learned to check email.
My hubby has known about mine since day 1 but that doesn't mean he reads it. He says "I live it, I don't need to read about it too." While this is sometimes true I write about the thoughts behind the action. So it tends to be a different perspect from his. He does occasionally read as most of his office does and he will sometimes get info from them.
I have MANY real life readers. So many that I often forget about it and when I see them it is like we have not been apart. They know everything current with my life. Some even call my kids by DS and DD in conversation. Humorous...to me.
And I have taken to asking if they read so I don't bombard them with things they already know.
Welcome Oronzo! I love your wife and her blog. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Courageous woman! Not sure what my husband's reaction would be, I'll have to give some thought to telling him.
My husbands comments about my writing still crack me up'...he told me most recently...I didn't know you had such deep thoughts.
Silly man...He doesn't realize just how deep we women are!
I think its great that you told Oronzo. Even if he leaves a comment, we'll have no idea since we don't know his real name. I'm curious to see if he stops by and checks you out.
My husband has known about mine since day one and loves ready it. He always comes home to ask me something about the blog. I love it!
Joe knows about my blog, and reads it daily (he's even been known to tell me - you haven't updated yet today!). I tell him he can always leave a comment if he wants but he hasn't yet and I doubt he will. I would like him to post occassionaly as you said Ellen's husband does, but I doubt that will happen either!
Had to chuckle at his reply, "you have readers?"
My husband knows about my blog and I will often share interesting things I see with him. He has no desire to read it. (He's sort of like Granny's Ray, in that he can do e-mail "a little")
Computers are just not his thing....
my hubby has known about mine;) he dosn't like that i post comments about him under desperate man lol he says why do i gotta be desperate? i say cause your married to me sweetheart LOL.... glad you told him!!! Totally happy you started your blog and granny got me hooked !!!!
That post is just so cute. =) Well, if Oronzo comes around & reads your posts and comments, "Hey Oronzo!!" =)
I am glad to be one of your readers. =)
you have a great blog and Im sure Oronzo will love it!
Isn't it weird talking to the husband about blogging? I always feel slightly apologetic and defensive--I don't know why.
J has known all along about my blog, he has left the occasional comment, and reads it daily the day after and loves looking at the pics. My ENTIRE family knows about my blog since it was designed intially to keep them in the loop since we moved to another country!
My hub has known about my blog too. He used to humor me and read all my posts. I don't think he's read one in weeks! He's not too concerned with it. He has his own blog, but he doesn't keep up with it.
Its such a quandary for me - whether or not people I know should know about my blog. A handful of close friends know - and one family member (I do not have a husband), but that's all. I fear I would censor myself, or that my mother would want to philosophize over every single thing I've written. But, I also know that if I did let the word out, I'd have more readers. For now, my blogging friends will just have to spread the word themselves.
