How much would you pay?

We're getting price quotes for a cleaning service to come in and do the heavy cleaning of our house twice a month. With both of us working outside of the home at the moment, it's getting to be too much and our house is suffering. I'm tired of it! It's time to take action and I'm not talking Flylady kind of action!

So I'm curious, how much would you pay for housekeeping service? Do you hire someone now?

I was paying about $90 to a service for service every two weeks. They did a lousy job. One time they completely skipped a bathroom. When I called to complain about it, they apologized. They didn't send someone out to do the work, nor did they refund any of my money.

I then went with a private individual. I found her in the newspaper and thoroughly checked her references. She charged me $45 to come every two weeks. Half of what I was paying. After a year of excellent service, I gave her a key. Until then, I'd leave one for her, but she didn't have one of her own. I'm now paying her $60 a visit and always give a generous Christmas bonus. If she reschedules, we just ignore the skipped day. If I reschedule, I'll throw in an extra $25 to make up for it. If the house is in especially bad shape, I'll pay her extra, too. I can't imagine life without her. She truly saves our marriage. The only thing we ever fight/fought about was cleaning.

Well....when I worked I paid a lady...not a service to come in every 2 weeks and clean my home and I paid her $100. She got $200 for the month she did everything except wash cloths and cook...she did fold laundry in the dryer and put it away for me though...that was very nice. I enjoyed this very much. But when I decided to stay home I did it all myself...

I have an Amish girl that comes every other Tuesday. I pay her $90.00 each time and she does the all the cleaning on both floors (no laundry or cooking or anything of that nature). It's well worth it to have my house completely clean all at one time.

I dont pay any one to clean my house, but i would love to have someone come in and do it. I would probably pay a private person i think more than someone working for a service, only because they would get all the money and not just a portion of it. Good luck!

I honestly don't know what the current rate is around here, except I know my neighbors have a lady come once a week, and this is not a rich neighborhood so it must be affordable for a household with two incomes. Since I stay home, there is NO WAY we could ever afford it.

I think that you need to make sure you check with individuals in your area as I'm sure the rates vary across the nation.

Before we moved to KS, I had someone come twice a month. I started out with an individual and paid her $45 each time she came. She started getting really sloppy and started skipping things, and then lying about it, so I switched to a small company -- that wasn't bonded or insured.

They had a key to my house, and they lost it! When I threatened to take the cost of rekeying my house out of their pay, they all of a sudden found it (I paid them $75 each time, I think), and I fired them.

Then I went with an insured and bonded company that brought in 2 or 3 girls each time to clean in 2 hours. I paid them $90 each time, but they did the best job.

I've heard that my area now is about the same price. My problem with all of these housekeepers is that after time, they start to cut corners and my house isn't as clean as it used to be after they came.

Good luck! I hope you find someone great! If you do - hang on to them! =)

Wow....maybe I should go into housecleaning....LOL! I don't have a cleaner now, but i could sure use one....i don't think i'd need one enough to pay that much though.

we pay about $60.00 a visit and we have a 6 bedroom house so it's a lot to clean. She does and excellent job. And I look forward to her coming!! My mom also uses her for her house as well. ! It's so nice to not have to worry about cleaning when you have three kids. AHHHH!!

We have an individual we found through word of mouth. We have a 3 bedroom, two bath, a little under 1700 sq ft and we pay her $60 every two weeks. I think that's a great price considering the messes left behind by a 3 year old and a 21 month old BOY!

Wow, I had no idea cleaning cost so much. I should up my kids' allowance :)

I have no clue!? Sometimes I wished I was able to have someone come in and clean.. or really just watch the kids for a few hours so I can sleep or even get the cleaning done myself with no distractions :)

I tried services several yearas ago and was never satisfied. I didn't like that I never knew who was coming and they didn't always do a good job.

Now I have an individual. She has been with us for almost two years. I love her--she has become a sweet friend. I found her through another person who did some other work for me--who I found through a friend.

She comes every two weeks and I pay her $70. She would do it for $50, but I don't think that is enough for what she does and we have some special circumstances, so we give her more than she originally asked for. I also give her a bonus at Christmas.

She is now cleaning for my dil and another friend also I feel very blessed to have found her and hope she stays with us for a LONG time. She loves us and we love her!

Good luck finding just the right person. You may have to try more than one service or individual before you find the right "fit." I don't think you will regret it.
