Sore throat in Hawaii.
Here I am in beautiful Hawaii where the weather is consistently between 70-80 degrees day and night, yet somehow I've ended up with a sore throat!
It hurts to swallow. It hurts to talk. It hurts to eat.
I'm wondering if I should go see a doctor but we're flying home Thursday morning so I'm thinking of waiting until I get home to do this, if my throat is still hurting by then.
We only have 2 full days left in Hawaii. I don't want a sore throat slowing me down!
Any recommendations on how to sooth a sore throat, besides cough drops?

Throat Coat tea with honey. It's available at Kroger or health food stores. My family swears by this stuff to restore a lost voice, and it soothes the throat, too. Hope you're feeling better!
I would think a pitcher of mai tai's would do the trick! =) No, seriously, lots of hot tea!
I like tea with lemon and honey. Once, as an emergency measure because my job entailed answering the phone and I had laryngitis, I was told to suck on a large lemon wedge and then swallow a teaspoon of honey. The lemon burned, but the honey soothed it instantly. My voice came right back, and no more sore throat. It was amazing.
Try swallowing a tiny bit (no more than 1 tbsp) of listerine in the morning and at night. Unless it's strep, this always does the trick for me! Gross, but it works!
I was in Hawaii last year. The same thing happened to me. Possibly weird climate change reaction. There is a clinic in the hotel area down by the beach in Waikiki. ?? Maybe in the Howard Johnson?? I can't remember.
You can at least get an antibiotic and start on it.
I believe this is pretty common there.
Have fun....(sorry you're feelin yuck though). When I was there....it rained the entire WEEK!!
I just read about this on another blog last week. Try gargling with a 50-50 mix of cider vinegar and water. The vinegar helps to kill off the stuff causing your throat to hurt.
In our house we also have had success gargling Listerine.
ugh- hope you feel better and can enjoy the rest of the trip!
Gargle with warm salt water it will hep. You may have to do it 2 or 3 times but it does help. The water has to be really warm and plenty of salt.

My mom would say gargle with salt water....
I prefer taking Cold FX (the sore throat lives out its life, but doesn't turn into a cold) because whenever I have a sore throat, it always means a common cold is coming on!
Also, if you get sick (like stuffed nose etc) before the plane, make sure to take something for it because the dry recycled air can give you a sinus infection... although the flight isn't too long. This happened to me on the flight from UK to Canada (9.5 hrs).
Best of luck! Enjoy the rest of your holiday!
I hope you feel better before the trip is up! It's never fun to be sick, ESPECIALLY on holiday!
