Colored Chalk

Guess what Snuggle Bug and I were doing this afternoon? You guessed it, doodling with colored chalk. He loves this stuff! He's even gotten to the point where he's not attempting to eat it very often and earlier this week he said, "chalk," for the first time when he walked outside and saw it sitting on the patio table. He's so smart!

I'm using colored chalk to expose Snuggle Bug to words, shapes, colors, and the alphabet. He gets this exposure through children's books, but the colored chalk proves to be another interactive tool. I also hope to nurture his creative side. When I start drawing pictures, he comes over and scribbles over the top or nearby, to help me. We get chalk all over ourselves in the process. It's a lot of fun! Our driveway is filled with our artistic endeavors.

I'm so excited, I don't have to work tomorrow or Monday and Oronzo and I decided not to go camping, as originally planned over this Memorial Day weekend. We've had a busy month so we just want some downtime at home.

This hasn't prevented me from scheduling three different play dates for Snuggle Bug (one at a friend's house, one at the Children's Museum, and one atop of a mountain for a lakeside picnic with friends and then a piece of pie at an awesome bakery/restaurant). Sunday night we plan to go to an outdoor classical concert with some friends. I also want to work on catching up on laundry and other household chores, do some reading, and maybe watch a movie or two.

Hmm, I think my long weekend is filling up rather quickly. Still, I'm excited that I don't feel the need to go to bed at a decent time tonight and I'll have more one-on-one time with Snuggle Bug. Hooray for long weekends! What are your Memorial Day weekend plans?

Thanks for the responses I've gotten thus far from my previous post. Tomorrow I'll be starting a recipe exchange. Either this weekend or early next week I'll post my first Blog of the Week post. I'm excited to get these things started!

Reminds me of my days with my boys when they were young!

I once drew a huge diagram of the inner and outer ear on our driveway when Sam was in 2nd grade. He was the "sound wave." I would whisper a word into his ear and then he skipped his way into the outer ear, through the inner ear and traveled all the way up the auditory nerve to the brain, where he finally got to shout out the word.

I've got a picture of it around here somewhere. If I can find it, I'll post it so you can see it.

Thanks for evoking a fun memory this morning!

Yay for sidewalk chalk! What a great invention! We love soap crayons too, for the bathtub.

Your weekend started out sounding relaxing (good idea no camping with a toddler...) but then it filled up to exciting! You are going to have fun!

I was just going to have a big dinner for my family to celebrate Punkin's adoption finalization on Tuesday. this morning he woke up with a fever of 105 so I think we are going to park in the rocking chair...

When are these kids going to stop trading germs????

I love the colored chalk. We painted the bottom 1/2 of part of our little girl's room with the chalkboard paint. She loves it! She goes to her closet, where we keep the chalk, & says, "Sdraw." Yes, it's a weird way to say it, but we know what she's talking about. =)
Our plans for the holiday weekend? Rest (hopefully). We've been going & running all month, too. Our little one is staying with her Grannie & Opa tonight, so we can get some much-needed rest. Then we'll probably just piddle around. Cook-out at 4:00 Sunday. We might go to the State Zoo Monday. ???
Enjoy your long weekend!!

Yeah, we are hoping to "lay low" this weekend too. Once the summer hits, we are so busy on weekends, we hardly get time to rest.

Sidewalk chalk sounds like a great idea. Widget would love it. I'll have to get some :-)

Fun fun fun! We love chalking outside as well and were just decorating our driveway yesterday :)

Sounds like it is going to be a busy 4-day weekend for you! We're just relaxing at home pretty much. Think we'll go up to the mountains tomorrow for a "MayFair" arts&crafts, music, fun...

Oh yes. Chalk. Many many masterpieces have been lost to the elements over here. Might I recommend the paintable chalk? Very cool.
