Works-for -Me Wednesday (comforts of home while traveling)
I'm almost embarrassed to admit that, as a grown woman I do this, but here goes.
The few times that I travel without my family (my husband and 19 month old son), as I'm doing now for business, I "borrow" a couple of items from both my husband and my son to take with me in an attempt to cope with missing them so much!
For my husband, I steal a t-shirt out of his closet and pack it to be used as a nightshirt (his shirts are like dresses on me). For Snuggle Bug, I take his security blanket with me. Thankfully, he has two security blankets (handmade by my aunt), a big one and a smaller replica. Both blankets have his name and birth date embroidered on them. I borrow the smaller one out of his crib.
Wearing Oronzo's t-shirt to bed and having Snuggle Bug's little blanket near me helps me sleep at night. I guess you can garner comfort from familiar objects from home no matter how old you are. It works for me, maybe it'll work for you too!

That is so sweet!
When hubby is away, I like to wear his T-shirt to bed. Thanks for sharing!
Blessings.
awwwww I would so do the same thing!
This is so sweet. My daughters often take some small thing that belongs to me (usually a stuffed animal - yes, I still have stuffed animals. Hush!) when they are away from home. Makes them less homesick.
That's a lovely idea.... I can so imagine that it takes the sharpest edge of missing them so much.
When I went back to work when Munchkin was three months old, I washed my hair with her shampoo so I could have her smell close to me without being too obvious about it! (I know, it sounds loopy, but it made me feel better!)
Only two and a half more days to go for you!
How cute! I love the look of your blog...beautiful!
Good idea! Happy Wednesday, ours is up as well!
I think that is just precious. Thanks for sharing.
I have only been away from both my hubby and girls for 1 night - BUT as my husband is gone this week I am wearing his t-shirt to bed and having my 2 year old sleep with me so I will have someoen to snuggle with. :)
I tried to e-mail you about your post on my blog, but it kept giving me an error. Anyway, my e-mail is curlyandjoe@hotmail.com I'm not sure why that wasn't showing up on my blog.
That made me tear up! When my husband and I can't go to bed at the same time, I sleep in the t-shirt that he wore that day... which is sort of gross, but hey.
That is just so sweet! I can so relate to wanting to have something of my little guy and his daddy with me when I'm away!
On the rare nights that hubby is out of town, I like to keep his (worn) shirt on the pillow next to me, where I can smell his soap, deoderant, and himself.
Not sure if he knows I do this. :)
Aw, I think that's so sweet! I don't travel away from my family often, but when I do, I have been known to call them and start crying about how much I miss them. Maybe I should take some mementos with me the next time!
I think that is a great idea, and so sweet. I'm a big wuss and don't like going anywhere alone, I would so do this if I had to though LOL
Great idea :)
I would do the exact same thing if I ever traveled away from my family....which I don't. I never have the opportunity. But I would bring little mementos as well. Just to feel close to them.
That's sweet!
I love this...very, very sweet!
I'm sure I would do the very same thing...
Blessings,
~Tammy
Oh, I love that and I'll confess that I do the same thing with hubby's t-shirts. If he's going to be out plowing all night, I'll grab a shirt and sleep in it. There's just nothing better than being surrounded by the scent of hubby!
Both when my hubby was in the ARMY and deployed, and now when he goes on details with his job. I still sleep in a t-shirt of his.
That's a great idea! I have my WFMW up!
Thats a good idea OW...Im sure the babys blanket smells like him which would be such a comfort!
I'm sure you're not the only one who does this! :) When Joe was gone to Korea for a year I would wear one of his shirts to bed! I would periodically send it back to him in exchange for another one so I could keep one with his scent LOL
I think it's the sweetest thing I ever heard. When my girls went away to college and I missed them so much, I used to go to their rooms and smell their closets. Always smelled like them. And it really was comforting. It's hard to be away from the people you love, even for a short time.
