Anyone from Ft. Walton Beach, FL area?
Tomorrow around 1 p.m. I'm leaving to fly to Ft. Walton Beach, FL to spend a week there on business. I'll actually be working at Eglin AFB.
Are there any bloggers that live in the Ft. Walton Beach or surrounding areas? If so, please let me know!
Leaving Snuggle Bug for 5 days is not going to be fun. He's now at an age where he'll understand that I'm gone. At 2 1/2 years old, I'm pretty sure he still doesn't have a concept of time, so I'm worried that he'll wonder if I'm ever coming back! We'll talk on the phone (well, I'll talk and he'll listen) and Oronzo will take pictures of him to email me but I won't be there to tuck him in at night, say prayers with him, and sing him his requested "Baby Mine" song. I won't be there to play with him each day.
Can you tell I'm going to miss him? ((sigh)) These business trips can be so hard!
On a more positive note, I must admit that I'm looking forward to some R&R time on the beach and sightseeing while I'm not working. A little alone time for Mommy is not a bad thing!
I'll have internet access at my hotel, so I'm sure you'll be hearing from me!

AWWWW! I will be praying for you because I am sure it is going to be hard. Have Oronzo make a chart and that way snuggle bug can x off each day to know when you are going to be back....this is what we have always done for K for daddy's trips.
Enjoy your time though...mommies are supposed to get a break once in a while.
One thing we do when one of us travels is count "sleeps" How many times my kids need to sleep before mom or dad come home. At 2 1/2 my son grasped the concept a little easier than, he's just coming home in ____ days.
Enjoy your time
Have fun and enjoy your alone time!
I'm sure you'll miss your little snuggle-buggle, though!
Ooo so hard to be gone! Take the time to rejuvenate and be an even better mommy! Hard to imagine since you are already awesome!
Have a safe trip. Enjoy your time on the beach when you get the chance to relax.
I got this idea from another mom at daycare. It is like 'counting sleeps' with a visual aid.
They put a calendar in their child's bedroom and mark the days the parent will be leaving and returning with an airplane. Then cross off the days to count until the parent will be back.
I'm going to be trying this when Honey goes on a business trip next month. And we're thinking about making the calendar an ongoing thing to mark other special events like a trip to the beach or visiting grandparents.
If you try it make sure you post about it. I'd love to know how it works.
Five days is a long time to be away from someone so little, but enjoy your time, and come home refreshed. xoxo
Awww.... how torn you must be. I pray it will go swifty for Snugglebug and also what precious time for father and son.
Hugs to you! Have fun!
Have a great trip! I wish I could go relax on the beach with you!
Nope, don't live near Ft. Walton, but sure wish I did! We haven't made it to the beach yet with all the kiddos - too many different nap schedules so we felt like we'd be spending our time in the room instead of the beach. Mayby next summer! Have fun!
I know you will miss your little family! I actually live about 2 1/2 hours from Ft. Walton...it is hot here too! Try and get someone to give you directions to the SandDestin outlets....amazing shopping---it will take ALL DAY LONG! All in one place!
We usually try and take 2 trips a year to the outlet. The next trip comes up in December!
We have church connections there as well (Assembly of God)
Have a wonderful time!
have a fun trip! even though I know you'll be missing Snuggle Bug and Oronzo try to enjoy some "alone" time too :)
How funny! I just stumbled upon your blog, and what do you know...I recently moved to California from Ft. Walton Beach! So I guess we just missed each other. I actually lived on Eglin AFB for three years with my Air Force husband. All I can say is prepare for sweltering, disgusting, wet heat! But you'll LOVE the white sands! They are truly a sight. Definitely one of God's most awesome creations. You'll want to go to Destin...it's a beautiful beach city with some cute stores. Niceville, a little city right outside of Eglin, is also a cute town to visit. Not much shopping, but it's pretty, and hey, it's called Niceville so it's got to be nice! lol...That's where I used to work and where my family went to church. Well, enough about me! I'm going to explore your blog some more. Have fun and say hi to Eglin for me!
Another random suggestion...make a little countdown ring thing...strips of paper in circles connected to each other....that you tear one off each night to symbolize the return....It's hard to explain. We did this with McGiggle's Birthday party...she loved it. It helped so much with concept of time...but she's 6.
Have fun. I'm jealous. I'd love to be on the beach.
We've had a bit of practice at this. ;)
We've done the "christmas" paper ring thing where you tear off a ring each day that you're gone until there are no rings left.
We've also down our version of an Advent calendar. You make a calendar for the number of days that you'll be gone. You'll want to make little pockets to put goodies in for your little one while you're gone. If the pockets are see thru, you can have little pictures behind the goody. When the goodies are gone... mommy (or daddy) is home!
A regular calendar also works. You can just put a big sticker on the day that you'll be coming home. Let the child add a small sticker to the calendar to count down the days until you'll be home.
There are more ideas, but I've written too much. Sorry! :( Have fun!
