Have you heard the news?
In case you haven't heard, Disney will soon have its first black princess! Princess Maddy will make her film debut in 2009 in a musical fairy tale called "The Frog Princess." It'll be set in New Orleans in the 1920's jazz age and it will be hand-drawn, no computer animation allowed!
Be sure to read more about Princess Maddy in an article written earlier this month in the Kansas City Star, entitled Black girls deserve some princess power.
Can I just say, it's about time! What do you think?

I think it's wonderful and very cool that it will be hand-drawn!
I'm with you, it's about time!!!
It is about about time, but I don't think we can take on any new princesses in this house...even more toys.
By the way, congrats on the movie tickets from the Mom blogs! Did you get the email announcing you as a winner? If you didn't, let me know, and I'll forward it to you so you can get your address to them.
Have a super week!
Oh Boy another Princess for my daughter to swoon over!!! hehe!
Seriously I think it is sad that it has taken this long. I look forward to further diversity in ALL kids programing!
We're relieved. It's about time.
Though I also am not looking forward to all the movie tie-ins cluttering up my house.
I'm with you...about time. We have I think every other race so yes it is about time or rather long past time but at least it will be done and she looks just adorable! I wonder who the model is?
For Pocahontis...not spelled correctly I know they did use a black or maybe she was a bi-racial model. I remember watching the special on PBS. This is wear I learned Shirley Temple was the model for Snow White.
Don't you just love useless trivia.
Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
I agree - it's about time!
AMEN!!!! I was so annoyed when I was at Disney World last time. It disturbed me to no end to see pretty little black skinned girls with no princess that looks like them. UGHHHH! I was thrilled when I saw they are finally getting with the program. Now we just need a Latin American princess and I'll be perfectly happy. At least they have Jasmine who is tan skinned. Still though. :0) Angel
Yes, it is about time! :)
We're all HIS princesses and it is about time Disney got ahold of that.
Now, when will the slightly-frumpy princess come in to style for the flabbier moms like me??? :)
Its about time. They need to cover all the nationalities!
