It starts early!
Good morning Blogland! I hope you all had a great weekend, as I did!
I have some pictures to share with you from this past weekend but before I do, I'd like to tell a story.
Saturday morning, Snuggle Bug woke up, called for his mommy to get him up, and then immediately walked into the living room and asked, "La La?"
To Snuggle Bug, La La is the generic term for his Baby Einstein DVDs. The first one he ever watched was the Neighorhood Animals DVD and it reminded him of his "Moo Ba La La La" book by Sandra Boyton, so he started calling all Baby Einstein DVDs "La La."
Anyway, he wanted to watch La La right away upon waking up. If we let him, he'd watch these 24/7 but Oronzo and I will only let him watch one a day and he hadn't even had breakfast yet, so I told him, "No La La, Snuggle Bug."
The wheels must've been churning in his little head because after I told him "No" he walked into our bedroom, where Oronzo was still in bed snoozing. He approached the bed and said, "Daddy, I love lu! La La?"
The little stinker decided he didn't like my answer, so he'd go ask Daddy and see if he would let him watch his DVD. He even made the effort to try to butter up Oronzo with an "I love lu" before posing his question! Thankfully, the bedroom door had been open and Oronzo had heard me tell Snuggle Bug, "No," so he gave him the same response. Then Oronzo got out of bed, came into the living room and said to me, "Wow, it starts early, doesn't it?!"
At barely 21 months old, our son has already figured out how to try to manipulate his parents! How does that happen? We are going to have to be on our toes with this one! :)
Okay, so at what age did you notice your children starting to try their hand at manipulation? Please tell me our child isn't exceedingly young to have learned this trick!
And now, it's time for some pictures. I think I mentioned in my post last Friday that we were going to go apple picking over the weekend. Snuggle Bug and I went with Oronzo's sister and her family and some other mutual friends. Oronzo stayed at home to work. Since I was keeping tabs on Snuggle Bug myself and helping him to pick apples, I didn't get a lot of pictures taken but here are 3 that I managed to snap quickly. Enjoy!
Picture #1- Snuggle Bug walking with his cousin down the long rows of apple trees. Sorry, the picture is a bit blurry. I was walking and trying to take pictures at the same time to keep up with them.

Picture #2- Snuggle Bug and his cousin stopping to eat more apples. Don't worry, they weren't eating the ones from the ground, they have ones picked from the trees. I can't believe how many apples Snuggle Bug ate that day! I'm surprised he didn't get a tummy ache. I ate quite a few myself. The Golden Delicious apples were our favorites!
Picture #3- These are some of the apples we picked. Aren't they beautiful! We had such a great afternoon at the apple orchard. This coming month we'll be back out at this farm picking out pumpkins!

Great pics - I'll be posting some apple picking pictures later as well. Isabella started the manipulation thing around the same time as snuggle bug - no later than 2. About as soon as she could ask us questions, she was learning to find the person that would give her the best answer. She just did it yesterday at my parents house - of course she normally goes to them first, but thankfully they will say "Ask Mommy" :) We've noticed things that we thought weren't supposed to start until later - WAY later - like when they are 10! My mom just laughed at me and said, "Don't worry, she'll still do it when she's older as well." :)
What beautiful photos! It looks like you had a wonderful, wonderful time. *Sigh* Don't cha just love fall!
As for the manipulation-thing, Devyn is already doing this too. If I say no, she goes to Daddy and vice versa. We're already playing the "what did so-so say?!"
Yummy!
Our trip to the orchard is still a few weeks out.
Manipulation is a sin as old as time and yes it starts young.
LOL there stinkers arn't they.. my daughter does that alot to... don't remember for sure when she started it but i think it was around the same time..
OW, isn't that just so funny when they try that for the first time! They learn so quick. He is already learning negotiating skills! lol
Human beings are inately sneaky and bad - my toddler, upon finding something forbidden and therefore desirable, will immidately turn her back on me. Which renders her invisible of course! Good thing babies aren't very smart.
Ha! That is so cute! Yes, it does start early and it doesn't end there! Just wait until he's a teenager ;o
Sigh. Widget does the same thing. Or in the midst of "torture" (ie something she doesn't want to have happen), she will call out to the other one of us as if we are going to rescue her!
Apple picking looks like it was fun. We had planned to take Widget last weekend but it was rainy, rainy here. We are hoping to get there before they are all picked over!
I don't know. My little boy is only 13 months and has not figured it out yet.
So weird that you just posted this. I'm about to post something similar this week. :)
We went apple picking this weekend too! (Because I didn't have enough to do already!)
Yeah, kids figure out all too early how to push all the right buttons...

When Bailey was about Snuggle Bug's age we took him to a strawberry farm and he loved it. Just like Snuggle Bug, I couldn't believe how much he ate. Thanks for the pictures they have inspired me to take Bailey again.
I love the photos. They are so cute.
Boy, kids sure do learn early don't they. I can't even remember when my boys started that game.
If you haven't seen it yet, get your hands on a copy of Bill Cosby, Himself~it is a must see for any parents. Part of his performance deals with at what age kids start manipulating their parents. It is hilarious. My kids all do it, too. And, because their are more than one of them, they have the added advantage of blaming the other ones for *trouble*.
Those photos are magical!
I try to think about the manipulation techniques as amazing problem solving. Problem solving skills are important and encouraged!
