Christmas & Toddler Bed
Hello everyone! Sorry I've been out of commission for a while. It's been a busy few days.

Christmas at our house was quite exciting. Now that Snuggle Bug is older, he's more aware of what Christmas involves. He didn't quite make the connection between Santa and Santa bringing him gifts, but he sure had fun opening presents. In fact, today he saw his Christmas stocking and said, "Presents?" I had to show him that it was empty and that the presents were all gone. :)

We took Snuggle Bug to Christmas Eve mass at 10 p.m. and he pretty much slept the whole time. Thankfully, he went to back to bed after mass with no problems.

Christmas morning, Snuggle Bug walked into our living room and found a Imaginarium train table set waiting for us. When he saw it, his eyes widened with surprise and he turned to me and said excitedly, "Mommy, trains!" As you can see from the picture, he's had fun with his train table!

The train table wasn't the only new thing Snuggle Bug got this week. Oronzo and I have been discussing getting Snuggle Bug a toddler bed and have done some research, but since Snuggle Bug wasn't attempting to climb out of his crib, we weren't rushing out to buy his toddler bed.

Yesterday, while I was doing some post-Christmas shopping, I found an adorable sleigh-style toddler bed. I called Oronzo and asked him what he thought about me buying it, he told me to go ahead.

Below is a picture of Snuggle Bug helping Oronzo to put together his new "big boy" bed. We simply moved Snuggle Bug's crib to the opposite wall in his room, still fully intact, and put the toddler bed in it's place.

When it was time for Snuggle Bug's afternoon nap, we asked him which bed he'd like to sleep in. He chose the toddler bed. After a bit of stalling, he finally laid down to sleep. I turned on his music and left the room. I listened outside his door for several minutes to figure out if he'd get out of bed to play or not. He chatted with his bunny for a bit and then the only sounds I heard was the music playing.

15 minutes later, I snuck into his room and snapped the 2 pictures below of him napping.

He seems to like his new bed but I guess it's a bit early to be certain, isn't it?

Last night he did the same thing, he picked the toddler bed to sleep in, stalled a bit (asking for extra hugs and kisses) and then settled down to sleep, or so I thought. I checked with him later in the evening to see how he was doing and found his jammies and diaper tossed on the floor next to his bed. He was sleeping, naked, wrapped up in his blankie.

Last week I tried a commenter's suggestion of putting him in a onsie and then putting his jammies on over that, to discourage him from stripping. That seemed to work. Last night I didn't think to use this trick and so he stripped. Tonight I will use the trick.

So, wish us luck on the toddler bed transition. I'm hoping it will continue to go well.

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!

What a wonderful train table Santa brought for Christmas. Snuggle Bug had to be so excited! My Little Man did the same thing with his big boy bed. We weren't ready to buy it yet, but the company we bought our baby furniture from was going out of business and we wanted to add the bed to the rest of the furniture. Our Little Man slept in it the first night and never looked backed. Makes me sad that there is no more crib.

Well, I hope he continues to enjoy being in a "big boy" bed. :)

Looks like your boy and my boy got about the same type of present this year... except we didn't put the trains out yet...he's just a bit too little for those yet...but ah..makes a wonderful playing and colouring surface for him right now.

Here's to hours of fun playing and loads of good sleep!

Becca has been in bed for over a year now. It was her choice when she slept in her crib and when the bed at first, and that seemed to make the transition much easier!

Awesome train table!

Merry Christmas to you and yours! It looks like you all had a wonderful time. Your stories of Snuggle Bug stripping have cracked me up!!

It sounds like Snuggle Bug's Christmas was fun! That's a great train set. I was cracking up reading about him stripping his clothes at night. :) We moved Isabella to a big girl - skip the toddler bed and put sides up on a regular twin bed - right before she turned 2. She actually climbed out of her crib at 1 year though, so had to watch her like a hawk for several months, then she started hating her crib all together. Amelia on the other hand, LOVES her crib and doesn't want to sleep anywhere else, she may give us problems so that she is in her crib until she's 4. :) I love the pictures of him napping, those are so sweet!

It sounds to me like it's already going very well. Maybe it's the little bars on the side. Somehow, he looks like he's perfectly happy to sleep in that bed. The way he took his clothes off cracked me up, though. I'd never have thought of the onesie. What a good idea.

My little brother got that same table for Christmas this year. We've had to change the batteries twice because he's been playing with it so much. It makes him frustrated though how the train stops at the station for a second or two and how he can't hook up EVERY single train too it along with several Thomas trains.

I hope you update re: toddler bed transition. We are about to do the same (though I haven't found the cute sleigh bed yet!)

what an awsome train table! The toddler bed is beautiful too - I wouldn't have been able to resist buying it either :) Sounds like the transition is going well! I did the same thing after we converted Kayla's crib to the toddler bed - snuck back in to take a picture of her sleeping :)

How cute! My guy is 2 1/2 and he is still in his crib. I don't think it will be too hard for him to make the transition, but I like the pen.

This is a fun stage of your life about to begin - the whole "Go get in bed and I will come tuck you in" is SUCH a JOY!!! Especially if you have other children to tend to, which I know is what you are hoping for soon enough...

Thanks for your comment on my post about our hopes for adoption. I have read every word of Snuggle Bug's adoption journey - and cried quite a bit. I will say that it is your story that has given me such hope.

The post you read was also sent out to my entire address book (like 250 people) and also posted on another website I am a part of with sorority sisters from Steubenville (about 100 members).

SO, we feel like God provided this online community for a reason, why not USE it???

Thanks again and I may be in touch with questions or just a need for some encouragement.

I am praying for your second adoption.

Stacey

The bed is beautiful! And nice table.

About the stripping, what about also using those safety diaper pins on the zipper top of his jammies?

Thanks for the idea on toddler bed transition; leaving the crib in the room and letting him choose. Very cool.

Happy New year!

Hey this big bed stuff was just too easy... my kids didn't do that good when they were small. I will keep my fingers crossed that it will continue.

Hello ~~ Great photos and story of your son's big-boy-bed and also the awesome train table. I wish you every good thing for 2007 and for a second adoption as it seems that what you are hoping for. You probably know I have 4 kids, 3 of them are adopted, but mine are all grown up. I just spent a week at my youngest, Kathryn's and had a lovely Christmas with her family. Thank you for your wishes for my trip, Christmas and New Year.
I hope you and your family have a wonderful New Year with many blessings
Take care, Love, Merle.
